Trial a lesson with a TEO Academy Tutor

Online English trial lessons

Meet your tutor before booking regular English lessons.

A trial lesson is a paid introductory teaching session. It gives you and the tutor time to discuss your goals, explore their teaching approach and decide whether you would like to continue learning together.

Simple booking process

How a TEO trial lesson works.

Tutors decide whether to offer a discounted trial. The exact duration, price and appointment times available to you will be shown before you confirm the booking.

1

Find a suitable tutor

Browse by subject, experience, price and availability. You can select Trial Lesson in the subject filters or check the lesson options displayed on a tutor's profile.

2

Check the details

Review the trial duration, price and appointment time shown before you book. A 30-minute session is generally recommended, but available options may differ.

3

Meet and choose

Discuss your goals, ask questions and decide whether the tutor's expertise and teaching approach feel right for your next lessons.

Two different services

A tutor trial is not the same as a free TEO consultation.

Both can help you make a confident decision, but they have different purposes and booking arrangements.

Tutor trial lesson

A paid introductory teaching session

This session is delivered by an independent tutor and booked through the TEO Academy platform.

The tutor chooses whether to offer a discounted trial.
The duration and price are displayed before booking.
It may include discussion, a sample activity or an informal assessment.
There is no obligation to book further lessons.
Free TEO consultation

A conversation about a specialist programme or service

This is offered directly by TEO Academy where stated. It is separate from a tutor trial lesson.

It is not an English lesson.
It does not count towards the discounted trial limit.
It may help you understand a programme, service or suitable next step.
Separate booking information may apply.
Make the session useful

What can you discuss during your trial?

A trial is designed to help both you and the tutor understand whether the learning relationship is likely to work well.

01

Your goals

Explain why you are learning English and what progress would look like for you.

02

Your priorities

Discuss your current level, areas of difficulty and the skills you want to build.

03

The tutor's approach

Ask about relevant experience, teaching methods, availability and lesson options.

04

Possible next steps

Decide whether you would like to book another lesson or continue comparing tutors.

Fair-use policy

Compare suitable tutors while keeping discounted trials fair.

You may book one discounted trial lesson with each of up to three different tutors. After that limit, a further introductory booking may need to be made at the tutor's normal published rate unless TEO Academy approves otherwise.

Before you book

Trial lesson questions.

Check the options shown for the individual tutor before confirming payment.

Is every trial lesson 30 minutes?

No. A 30-minute session is generally recommended, but tutors may offer different durations. The available option will be shown before booking.

Are trial lessons free?

No. Tutor trials are paid teaching sessions. A tutor may choose to offer a discounted trial and the applicable price will be displayed before payment.

Can I try more than one tutor?

Yes. You may book one discounted trial with each of up to three different tutors under TEO Academy's fair-use policy.

Will I receive a complete lesson or assessment?

Not necessarily. A trial may include a sample activity or informal assessment, but a complete lesson, formal assessment or written learning plan is not guaranteed.

Do I have to continue with the tutor?

No. There is no subscription and no obligation to book further lessons after a trial.

What if I am unsure which tutor to choose?

Use free TEO Tutor Match. Tell us about your goals, availability, approximate budget and preferences and we may recommend up to three suitable tutor profiles.
