Tutor FAQ: Your Questions Answered

Welcome to the TEO Academy tutor community. Here you'll find official answers to the most common questions about our platform, payments, and teaching tools.

Students & Platform

Q: Who are our students, and which region are they from?

A: We are investing heavily into advertising. We are running Google Ad campaigns focussed on South America, Europe, Middle East, India, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan currently.

Q: When is the peak time for students to book lessons?

A: This is currently difficult to anticipate. We are getting data from Google analytics which show that depending on location, these times vary significantly by region. Saturday seems to be the most popular day for lesson bookings currently.

Q: How do we get support /BOT to respond to queries in real time?

A: There may be a real time query function in the future. We have the tech capability for this. However, there are a few key considerations. Do we want bots answering questions when real human interaction is better (in our opinion)? In the meantime, Lisa, James, and the admin team are doing their best to answer queries as they arise.

Q: Are tutors supported with ‘bad’ students?

A: TEO is 100% behind its tutors. You are professionals and should be respected. If you receive any inappropriate messages, contact us immediately. If a student behaves inappropriately during a lesson, end the lesson immediately and report it to us. They will be removed from the platform. We have a zero-tolerance policy in this regard.

Payments & Earnings

Q: What is the minimum amount a tutor can transfer from his/her wallet?

A: £1 (GBP).

Q: Are there specific payment platforms authorised by TEO? Do we support Wise payouts?

A: We have Stripe, PayPal and bank transfer options currently. We are absorbing the PayPal Payout costs ourselves, so tutors receive the full amount. We are looking at how to integrate other methods, but we can't give a timeline yet.

Q: Can a tutor withdraw earnings at any time?

A: A tutor can request a wallet withdrawal at any time. Currently, we authorise these payments during standard UK banking hours (Monday to Friday, 9 am – 5 pm). The time funds arrive in your account will vary depending on your bank.

Q: Can we sell our own resources?

A: Yes. You can create and sell ‘courses’ via your tutor dashboard. You set the prices, and we take our standard flat commission rate on sales. We suggest experimenting with the course creation tool to see how it works.

Lessons, Tools & Resources

Q: I noticed that I couldn't edit my chat once it's posted. Can that be looked into?

A: There are three dots to the right of a message where you can delete a comment. We will look at the possibility of an "edit” function but are unable to give a timeline on that currently.

Q: Is there a column for notes to the student or the tutor (privately) apart from the chat box?

A: During lessons, only the chat box is available. Outside of lessons, you can use the messenger tool. For tutors' private notes, there is a space to the left of the lesson window. Tutors receive email notifications for all messages, bookings, etc.

Q: Can we have a resource library page? And will this show what levels they are aimed at (e.g. B2, C1 etc.)?

A: We are looking at developing a password-protected subdomain for tutors to share resources and provide feedback. Grading resources is a great suggestion, and we will continue to work on developing these tools at TEO.

Q: Where is LessonSpace from?

A: LessonSpace’s physical address is 2035 Sunset Lake Road, Suite B-2, Newark, 19702, Delaware.

Q: Can we go on LessonSpace outside of the classroom?

A: Unfortunately, not through TEO. However, LessonSpace has its own YouTube channel with many resources showing how everything works. You can find them at @lessonspace.
